I have three hobbies, one to keep me in shape, one to make me $, and and one to keep me creative.
Coming from my fitness background transitioning from ballet to “exercise” has been rough to say the least. Dance was my hobby for the majority of my life, so I’ve started to view the gym like that too. Here are my best tips if you’re lacking motivation (like me a lot of the time TBH.)
+ View everything as taking care of yourself. Strive for progress and not perfection.
+ Don’t go into all of these things too strictly or with negative thinking. I could go on about this forever, but I see working out now more for the purpose of taking care of my body and strengthening it- not so much for losing weight or reaching a certain kind unattainable societal standard.
+ Be as social as you can, go with a friend, or just find someone else to keep you accountable.
+ Seems obvious but hydrate! This will help with any soreness while you’re still getting into the groove of things.
+ Set a realistic routine and stick to it (as best you can). For me, this looks like personal training once a week and going to the gym with a friend 2 other times a week. If you skip a day or can’t make it out to exercise as much as you want to don’t get discouraged, it’s better to do a little than none at all.
+ Make better food choices, we’ve all heard it’s 80% what you eat and 20% exercise. So do what you can in this department, I always find meal prep inspo on Pinterest.
+ Find some workout gear you feel super confident in. My current favorites have been from TLF Apparel.
