Having clear skin always seemed unattainable for me. I tried everything and after years of being sick of hearing people say, “Just drink more water!” I decided to put myself in a professional’s hands instead of experimenting with products and putting my face through hell.
I’ve been going to the same dermatologist for over a year now and it has been quite the journey. They have not only cleared me up but also taught me so much about skincare. Finding the right doctor that actually cared about my skin concerns was huge for me too. I used Zocdoc to look up MD’s in my area.
Quick disclaimer: I’m obviously not a doctor (lol). My biggest recommendation if you are struggling with acne is to go to one. This regimen is what worked for me and my specific skin type.
Ok, so the first thing is, throughout my experience taking antibiotics for my skin as well as topical medications is that your face is gonna start to look a lot worse before it gets better. When I first made the switch in my routine my skin literally did not know how to act and it was horrible. I was very dry because that’s what happens as a result of most of these products at first, but I committed and endured all the side effects. In the morning I go for an easy 3 step routine.

At my doctor’s office, they taught me to put on moisturizer before the medicated creams, and this helps combat the dryness. The topical medication I use as a spot treatment now. Switching to a moisturizer with sunscreen was a godsend for me and helped to simplify my morning process. You can find my suncare routine here.
